Harry DID become an auror. In one of JK Rowlings interviews she stated that Ron and Harry worked for the Auror Dept. revolutionizing the Defense against dark wizards right after the final battle with Voldy

I must say that I am a bit disappointed that we didn’t get to see more of the Dursleys, especially at the end of the book…

As to Harry not getting a scar. Well, the first time Voldemort was planning on making a Horcrux, which (I believe) was not his intention the last time. Secondly, his powers didn’t really work on Harry after Harry returned. Remember his cruciatus curse in the woods? Harry didn’t feel a thing.

Alright. But why did the Dursleys just disappear from the plot? And why didn’t Harry get another lightning-shaped scar from the second killing curse he survived?

Well, I don’t know about him becoming an Auror. There isn’t anything specific in the book, and I haven’t checked it online. Rowling has made some comments on it, I believe…

After Harry, Ron and Hermione were reunited and discovered by breaking the taboo attached to the name Voldemort, Ron claims to be Stan Shunpike. A man called Scabior replies: “Like ‘ell you are. We know Stan Shunpike, ‘e’s put a bit of work our way”.

That could be interpreted both ways, but I think most likely he supported the Death Eaters, though not being one.

A question for you: did Harry actually become an Auror like he wanted?

Your analysis is a spot on, Kjetil. Congratulations. I too was surprised that Jacobs is apparently unaware of Christ figure – Christ allegory distinction. Well, I am sure he is but then it makes me wonder why he wrote part of his essay in a way he did.

In an older essay posted on his site, O’Brien claims to have read the first four HP books three times each. But one has to wonder about his reading comprehension when he gets so many things factually wrong–quite apart from his curious interpretive tools.

I have opposed O’Brien since he first ranted against HP. (google our names together and see) He’s only gotten worse over the years. Your comment on “not bearing false witness” is exactly right.

Excellent insights. I just read the last chapter in Abolition of Man and just did some writing on the scientific nature of the magic of HP, and then just sort of randomly, stumbled on this. Good stuff!
